How it meets the client brief:
It is a clear British location which the client brief asks for. This focus on Britain should draw in British horror fans and British cinema-goers in general as British horror films are uncommon.
Horror and threat is utilised instead of violence and gore, which keeps the rating to 15 instead of 18 rating. This means that the audience for the film is wider, encouraging the feature film to be successful at the box office.
The film's title card gives a sense that it is teasing for a longer film which is common for a horror short and the 5:30 runtime exceeds the minimum requirements for the brief.  This time constraint helps focus the scenes on building a sense of tension and making the final scene more impactful.
Finally, the editing, which is detailed below, help hit the horror element of the client brief, despite it having a 15 rating.  Utilising post-production techniques like colour desaturation and disconcerting sound effects create tension that makes the short feel like a horror without using excessive violence, blood or gore.
How it creates meaning:
Cuts are used to show the setting which allows the consumer to understand where the short is based. Showing the scenery and images of the main character will help the viewer understand the premise of the short. Cutting to either side of the character allows for confusion as this is not a common tactic in filmmaking. It will also create a sense of discomfort due to how quiet the scene is.
The desaturated colour grading makes the audience experience more discomfort as the scene feels a little bleaker due to the muted tones. It also makes them concentrate more on what they're seeing due to it being darkened. As they concentrate the small jump scare flashes may surprise them.
The use of repeated footage makes the consumer understand that the character’s day to day is exactly the same with the brief cuts to give a sense of threat and shows the consumer that he may not remember everything that he is doing due to his memory loss. There are mild jump scares which in turn create even more unsettling feelings in the consumer. The transitions suggest a passage of time which cements in the consumer that the character is experiencing memory loss and monotonous days thus creating more unsettling feelings in the audience.
Use of sound effects to create the jump scare is used repeatedly to create a sound motif. It is also a scary sound that could make the viewer jump from how sudden it appears. The colour change in the jump scares represent threat and danger which could make the consumer scared. This colour change is emphasised thanks to the desaturation mentioned previously. The music, colour and font is suitable for the title card and it creates recognition that this is a horror film.
