A horror-genre convention is the use of dress codes to instil discomfort about the villain, often by using dark colours to signify threat and obscuring their facial features, creating an enigma code about their identity. I plan to use this convention by selecting dark clothes for my villain's costume, and with a mask. I will use a conventional horror-genre visual code of using a low hue and uncomfortable colours through editing codes; I will do this by colour correcting the light and colour in the film to seem blue and cold. Another horror-genre convention is loud, sharp sounds by using audio codes and editing codes. I will create a loud, "scream" in an audio editing software that I will add into the film during the jump scares as non-diegetic sound. Another visual convention, I have observed in horror films, is a change in colour palette on the screen - I will use editing and visual codes to increase the gain to make the screen red and yellow. I will use this for the jump scare and the small jump cuts during the montage.
