Film Title: He Never Forgot
Log Line: Man with dementia, Richard, finally leaves the house after not being allowed; remembers the one thing he would wish to forget.
Synopsis for Act 1 (feature film): Richard, 58, suffers from young-onset dementia that developed slightly earlier in his life. He lives in his family home by himself but his carer looks after him by cooking food and making sure everything is clean. He likes to keep a diary, however, he can't remember each entry so he keeps writing each time he makes an entry, getting rid of the previous one.
Synopsis for Act 2 (feature film): The first incident occurs when Richard walks out of the front door - there is tense ambient sound building up as he stares at the door handle until he opens and leaves. The tension releases once he sees nothing around him yet. He forgot where he is due to dementia and not realising he is outside his house; he starts to walk in silence and he sees a figure in the distance.
Synopsis for Act 3 (feature film): He decides to follow him, as he gets close the figure doesn't notice him when he murders someone brutally. Regardless of his dementia, when he sees the person's death, the image gets burned into his mind and faints. When he does the figure finally notices him, standing over his unconscious body; killing him to end the film.
Synopsis for the short: 50 year old Richard has had young-onset dementia for 5 years. Not being allowed out the house by his family; he plans to sneak out, although he can't remember thinking about it.One night on the other hand, he plans and leaves his house. Knowing nothing about his whereabouts, he follows a figure in close proximity. Turns the same corner as the figure and it's gone; no where to be seen, he turns around to be surprised with the horrendous face of the figure.
Characters and Descriptions: Richard - 58 years old, 5'8, young-onset dementia, struggles to function due to the dementia. Blonde, blue eyes.
The Figure - Unknown age, average height (around 5'8 or 5'9), wears dark clothes and a mask.
Target Audience: The target audience for my short film is 15+ due to the fact the age rating is a 15 and this age groups' second favourite genre is horror so I have tailored my product to that information by adding scare factors like jumpscares and suspense. I also want to appeal to older audiences. I can do this as older audiences may have more experience with dementia as they may know someone who has early-onset dementia like loved one (parent, husband, wife etc).
Style and Genre: The sub-genre of my horror short is a psychological horror.
Personnel: 1 cameraman, 3 actors
Distribution and Marketing: I want to distribute my horror film via cinemas and streaming services like Netflix. I would gain revenue via advertisements and paying for tickets; along with being paid by Netflix. I could also post the horror short to YouTube to advertise the feature film. Alongside this, I could create posters and do a real life marketing idea like the "Carrie" prank in the cafe.
BBFC certificate and rationale: Since the film is 15+ age rating, I am allowed one f-word, no sexual content, no drugs and violence but not in detail. Therefore, I may take advantage of this to appeal to teens and young adults.
